George Russell hailed the Azerbaijan Grand Prix weekend as the "most dominant" of his Formula 1 career after topping almost every session around the streets of Baku.

The Mercedes driver missed out on the top spot only during Free Practice 3, where he finished second behind Max Verstappen. On race day, Russell claimed his maiden Formula 1 "Grand Slam", having started from pole position, led every single lap, set the fastest lap of the race, and taken the victory.

With his triumph on the Caspian coast, Russell clawed back 15 points in the championship battle against Andrea Kimi Antonelli. The margin between the two Mercedes teammates has now narrowed to 66 points ahead of the final eight rounds, starting with this weekend's race in Malaysia.

"This is my first Grand Slam in Formula 1 and definitely the most dominant weekend of my career, so it comes at a very important moment," said Russell. "To do it on a track that requires so much confidence makes me really proud. I think it would have been easy for me to lose faith this season—not specifically regarding the championship, but in my own abilities—and that never happened."
