Gary Neville urges Glazer family to sell Manchester United

Former Manchester United captain Gary Neville has stated that the Glazer family have run their course and must sell their remaining stake in the club. United are enduring their worst start to a Premier League campaign, alongside losing two of their opening three Champions League fixtures, leaving manager Michael Carrick under intense pressure ahead of Saturday's trip to Chelsea.

The American Glazer family, who took control of the club through a controversial buyout in 2005, remain majority owners after selling a minority stake to Sir Jim Ratcliffe's INEOS in 2024. Neville has now called on them to walk away from United entirely.

"They've got to sell now, they've got to sell, I'm sorry, but the time has come," Neville said on the Stick to Football podcast. "They've outsourced the football side to INEOS, they are trying to run the football side, it's three years of struggle and it looks like this year is going to be a struggle as well. The Glazer family in America, in Tampa, are very popular over there, they go to every game, as I hear, they go to all the NFL games, but they've hardly stepped foot in Old Trafford in the last 20-odd years."

United have ambitious plans to build a new stadium, but the former right-back is demanding immediate change. "I just think they've got to sell now – enough's enough, the club is in debt, you haven't spent a penny on the stadium, and now you're trying to borrow £2 billion for a stadium which you don't even know how you're going to borrow," Neville added. "You've had 13–14 years of failure on the football side, you've passed the buck to someone else, which is ridiculous, and you haven't taken responsibility. It's now got to the point where they have to sell the club."
