Gakpo: New Coach Means a Fresh Start for Everyone

Dutch forward Cody Gakpo commented on the 1-1 draw with Germany in their Nations League opener, the first match for the team under new head coach Xavi. “When a new coach arrives, it’s a fresh start for everyone. He brings a lot of passion, intensity, and energy. Now our task is to demonstrate all of that on the pitch,” Gakpo told UEFA’s official website.

Gakpo equalized in the 90th minute, after Nmecha had put Germany ahead in the 32nd minute. The match also marked Jürgen Klopp’s debut as head coach of the German national team. In the second round, the Netherlands will visit Serbia on September 27th. Germany will host Greece on the same day.
