«Frustrating and a huge disappointment»: Bernardo Silva reacts to the 2026 World Cup
Bernardo Silva took to social media this Sunday, nearly a week after Portugal's elimination by Spain, to reflect on the national team's World Cup performance. The midfielder, who is set to join José Mourinho at Real Madrid for the new season, openly expressed his frustration and disappointment.
«A frustrating World Cup and a huge disappointment to finish much earlier than we all imagined. It was and always will be a great source of pride to represent our national team. Thank you very much to all Portuguese for the support and hope you placed in us,» Bernardo Silva wrote.
Bernardo Silva started the 2026 World Cup as a starter against DR Congo, then came off the bench against Uzbekistan. After remaining an unused substitute against Colombia, he was brought on against Croatia and Spain, the latter marking Portugal's exit from the tournament in the round of 16.
