Francisco Cabral's run at the ATP 500 Hamburg concluded in the opening round. The Portuguese tennis player, currently ranked 21st in the world for doubles, and his British partner, Joe Salisbury, were upset by the German wildcard pairing of Jakob Schnaitter and Mark Wallner.
Despite a promising start, the Portuguese-British pair couldn't hold off a comeback from their wildcard opponents, ultimately falling after 80 minutes with a final score of 6-2, 3-6, 8-10.
Cabral and Salisbury, a former doubles world number one, began the match strongly, securing the first set convincingly. However, the German duo rallied in the second set, forcing a decisive match tie-break.
In the crucial tie-break, Portugal's top-ranked doubles player and his partner established a comfortable 7-2 lead, only to allow a remarkable recovery from Schnaitter and Wallner, who ultimately sealed the victory.
Following their early exit in Germany, Francisco Cabral and Joe Salisbury are now setting their sights on Roland Garros. The Parisian tournament will mark the first Grand Slam the duo will contest since forming their partnership in April at the Monte Carlo Masters 1000.
