Four Clubs Prepare £800 Million Claim Against Man City

Manchester City could face a fresh wave of significant problems as four Premier League clubs are reportedly preparing potential legal claims totaling up to £800 million. These claims stem from the financial fair play breaches for which the Citizens were found guilty. Arsenal, Tottenham, Liverpool, and Manchester United are among the clubs that, as early as 2024, reserved their right to pursue legal action should City be found culpable.

According to the Daily Mail, representatives from these four clubs are already investigating the extent of financial claims they can make. They believe they suffered financial losses as a direct consequence of Manchester City's alleged infringements. Tottenham is thought to be in a position to claim the largest sum, having missed out on Champions League qualification on several occasions while City dominated English football. Sources cited by the publication suggest that individual claims of around £200 million would not be surprising.

Meanwhile, the legal battle surrounding the 115 charges could drag on for another two years. Manchester City awaits the official ruling on the case, following an independent commission's findings of breaches across almost all significant accusations. However, the club vehemently denies the conclusions and is expected to appeal. In their previous dispute with UEFA, the Citizens successfully overturned a two-year ban from European competitions at the Court of Arbitration for Sport.

Given the immense stakes, City has already assembled a formidable legal team to defend the club in the subsequent stages of the process. Should the appeal not result in a change of decision, legal experts suggest the dispute could escalate to the Supreme Court, further prolonging the proceedings. Concurrently, any potential claims from rival clubs could evolve into separate, protracted legal battles.
