While Robelis Despaigne may not boast the illustrious career of Junior dos Santos, he now holds a memorable victory over him. In the opening bout of the main card at the "Rousey vs. Carano" event, the Cuban fighter overwhelmed Dos Santos within the first two minutes of the opening round. The heavyweight clash took place at the Intuit Dome in Inglewood, California.
The 37-year-old Despaigne had not competed in MMA since his release from the UFC in late 2024. He transitioned to Karate Combat, where he amassed seven victories and claimed the heavyweight title. Following his win on Saturday, Robelis expressed his ideal desire to compete in both sports, issuing a challenge to Francis Ngannou.
For the 42-year-old Dos Santos, this marked his first MMA bout since May 2022. In March 2024, he competed in a bare-knuckle fight. Despite his success in bare-knuckle boxing, Dos Santos now faces a streak of five consecutive knockout losses in gloved MMA contests.
