Former Spanish International Slams Barcelona's Decision to Sell Ferran Torres

A former Spanish international goalkeeper has sharply criticized Barcelona's decision to sell "La Furia Roja" hero Ferran Torres to Paris Saint-Germain. The former shot-stopper had voiced his disagreement with the Valencian forward's departure throughout the summer and reiterated his stance on the program "El Partidazo de COPE." According to Cañizares, Barcelona is parting ways with Ferran just as the player has overcome the difficulties of his initial years and reached a level of maturity that makes him a more reliable player.

The former player recalled the challenges the forward faced when he left Valencia for English football, explaining: "This is a young man who comes from a small town in Valencia, goes to England, and, of course, finds it difficult to adapt to an extremely competitive team at the time, where there's no place for him, and when he plays, he does so without confidence."

Cañizares believes that Barça acted correctly by backing the player, but he feels the club made the decision to sell him precisely when he had managed to adapt and show his best form: "Barça signed him intelligently, but even at Barcelona, he struggled to adapt. Eventually, he settled in, became useful, is now in the best moment of his career, scored the goal in the final, and precisely now they are selling him. Everything is upside down."

For this very reason, the former goalkeeper does not believe that the money Barcelona will receive is sufficient to justify the operation. He questions the club's ability to find a reliable replacement in the market for that sum: "You're not giving him away, because 50 million isn't a gift, but for 50 million euros, for a goal-scoring forward, go to the market and see what's available for that money."

Santi Cañizares emphasized that this is not a momentary opinion but a position he has maintained all summer: "I've been singing this tune all summer; I just can't understand it."

Barcelona experienced a summer filled with numerous changes. The Catalan giants signed Anthony Gordon, Karim Adeyemi, and Jesse Bisiwu, while continuing to work on finalizing Rodri's transfer and João Cancelo's return. Additionally, the club is still searching for a central striker, with Julián Álvarez being the priority.

Regarding departures, Ansu Fati, Yan Virgili, and Iñaki Peña also brought revenue to the "Blaugrana" coffers, while Ronald Araújo and Marc-André ter Stegen were sent out on loan. However, the most significant deal proved to be that of Ferran Torres, who, after four and a half years at Spotify Camp Nou, is heading to PSG for 50 million euros – a decision Santi Cañizares cannot comprehend.
