Shams Charania broke the news, confirming Wall's return to Washington, the city where he spent the majority of his professional career. The former first overall pick in the 2010 NBA Draft, selected by the Washington Wizards, played for the club for a decade before later suiting up for the Houston Rockets and Los Angeles Clippers.

Throughout his career, Wall was a five-time All-Star, recognized as one of the league's fastest point guards and an elite play-maker. In the 2016-17 season, he led the NBA in steals and was named to the All-NBA Third Team in 2017. He also won the Slam Dunk Contest in 2014. Across 647 career games, he averaged 18.7 points, 8.9 assists, 4.2 rebounds, and 1.7 steals per contest.

The latter part of his career was marred by severe injuries, most notably a torn Achilles tendon in 2019. He played his last game in January 2023 and officially announced his retirement from professional basketball last August.
