Barcelona manager Hansi Flick analysed his side's emphatic 6-1 victory over Alavés in their La Liga Matchday 11 clash at Spotify Camp Nou. With this triumph, the Catalans reclaimed top spot in the table.
"We managed to neutralise the opposition. We expected them to stay compact defensively and look for quick transitions, but we controlled proceedings and stayed completely focused at the back. I am delighted with the performance, particularly in the first half," the head coach stated.
The German tactician also addressed the selection issues across the backline, with four defensive players currently sidelined.
"We have to find creative solutions. We don't know exactly when the injured players will be back. I asked Frenkie if he was ready to play at centre-back, he agreed, and I truly appreciate that. Fariñas also put in an excellent display at full-back—he earned his chance and showed tremendous professionalism," he commented.
Regarding squad rotation and managing player workload, Flick emphasised the need for flexibility.
"We are forced to alter the lineup. Sometimes you set out one plan, but the way the match unfolds demands something else. We had options like Rodri, Frenkie, and Fermín, and we made the necessary adjustments. That is the reality and we have to embrace it," said Flick.
The coach was full of praise for the team's attacking output.
"When you have scored two goals, it is easier to come off. I spoke with Lamine at half-time—he needs to rebuild his confidence in one-on-one duels, but it was important to give him a rest. He played a fantastic match, and both Fermín and Raphinha were outstanding as well. This was exactly the kind of response I wanted to see after our previous defeats," Flick added.
The manager also touched upon reaching the milestone of 100 victories at the helm.
"I don't usually dwell on the past, but I am extremely proud of these 100 wins. We were hoping to reach 100 games with Barcelona, and now we already have 100 victories. Perhaps the sweetest memory remains the first Clásico triumph in Madrid, although there have been plenty of great performances," Flick added.
On the recovery of sidelined players, the manager stated that he would not be taking any unnecessary risks.
"Their recovery is progressing well, but they are not at peak fitness just yet. Andreas is very close to returning to the matchday squad, but we will be patient. We have two matches ahead before the international break, and we need everyone healthy," Flick clarified.
Flick also shed light on his decision to substitute Pedri.
"We took him off because of his accumulated minutes and the yellow card. It was a great opportunity to give Bernal some playing time and the right move for the team's balance," the manager concluded.
