Akande finally woke up and dragged himself away from his duvet and sheets.
Squinting at his bedside alarm, he realized that the day was far spent and it was past noon already. Well, he didn’t need to go to work today then, good thing he was his own boss.
After leisurely getting dressed and making a light breakfast, he decided to check on his neighbor at the hospital. He wanted to call NK, but he felt he should leave her be. If she needed his help, she’d call and he’d be glad to help her with whatever she needed.
He stopped by the supermarket to get Lucozade boost, evaporated milk and some other provisions for the convalescent.
The nurses at the front desk recognized him and descried the room Chike was in to him. Akande actually felt good about doing his neighbourly duties.
When he got to the door of Chike’s room, it was standing ajar. He peered in and the sight he beheld made him feel like someone kicked him in the stomach.
NK was beside her husband’s bed, holding his hand tenderly. It was obvious she cared about him a lot.
Akande backtracked and stumbled out of the building, feeling like a huge boulder had dropped on his chest.
