NK returned to her seat beside Akande, red-eyed but well put together.
She glanced over at the man beside her and wondered why he was being so nice and helpful to her.
She had an idea as to why, but she preferred to pretend that he was just being a kind neighbor and nothing more.
“Thank you for bringing me. I really appreciate it. But I might be here for a long time. Don’t let me keep you.”
Akande’s response was a low hum of a laugh that sounded surprisingly nice. She had never heard him laugh though, but the sound pleasantly surprised her.
“It’s fine. I couldn’t leave you in the state you’re in. Besides, there’s really nothing or no one waiting for me.”
Akande lived alone, and there were rumours about why he had no wife even though he was rich enough to have three.
