FIA President shares heartfelt message to newly crowned F1 champion Antonelli
FIA President Mohammed Ben Sulayem has shared a heartfelt message on social media to newly crowned Formula 1 World Champion Kimi Antonelli, urging him to "never change" despite his monumental triumph.
Ben Sulayem, who took the helm of motorsport's global governing body in 2021, could not hide his delight over the Mercedes driver's historic milestone after sealing the title at the Mexico City Grand Prix.
With this victory, the 20-year-old sensation became the youngest champion in Formula 1 history, delivering Italy its first drivers' title in the pinnacle of motorsport in 73 years. Antonelli also joins Jacques Villeneuve and Lewis Hamilton as the only drivers to clinch the crown in just their second full season—aside from Juan Manuel Fangio, who won his maiden championship in 1951 during the sport's second-ever campaign.
"I'm truly thrilled. Congratulations, Kimi. What I saw in you is the ability to deliver not just under pressure, but under immense stress, and never complain. From the bottom of my heart: Congratulations! You are a true phenomenon."
The FIA chief also made a special plea to Antonelli, calling on him to remain humble and not let global stardom alter his character.
"I have just one request for you: never change. Stay the Kimi whose first Super Licence I personally signed last year, and the Kimi you are today. Just make sure you remain the same person. I'm not the only one celebrating—so many people are genuinely happy. Thank you for everything you've done. I wish all the best to you, your family, and your team."
