The ultramodern hotel is literally a diamond in the rough. Metellus Dimora is located in the ancient Matera’s Sassi district. The place is an age-old human settlement and UNESCO declared it a World Heritage Site in 1993.

The hotel takes its name from the Metellana tower, a part of the ancient Sassi of Matera (Civita). According to legend, the tower was constructed by Roman Consul, Quintus Caecilius Metellus Numicidio, who died in the city which now bears his name.

The cave-dwellings that date as far back as the 11th Century were  recovered and fitted with comfy reception rooms and four bedroom suites.
