We've come to expect the unexpected when it comes to Survivor blindsides, secret alliances, and immunity idols seemingly pulled out of nowhere. But some of the best twists have come from the game itself, like the Survivor: One World season where both tribes lived on the same beach. This season, fans were thrilled to find out that eliminated players will have the chance to come back into the game after spending some time at an abandoned beach away from the rest of the castaways, called Edge of Extinction . This twist was revealed to the rest of the contestants on last night's episode, and they were understandably shocked.

The inhabitants of Extinction Island (Rick, Chris, Keith, Reem, Aubry, and Wendy) were then given a chance to return to the game, with the winner of the challenge heading back to join the main group. After Rick won, it seemed like the five other Extinction Island residents were set to go home, but it turns out the twist had another aspect: Rather than just being a first-half-of-the-game thing, Edge of Extinction is still in play, which means that the eliminated castaways have another chance to make it back into the game.

Additionally, any eliminated castaway who chooses to stay on Extinction Island after the first merge Tribal Council automatically earns a spot on the jury.

This twist left fans in a frenzy, and Twitter was soon full of reactions about the new information.

Some fans loved all of the twists and turns...

@JeffProbst Thank you so much for this #EdgeOfExtinction twist!!! I love getting the opportunity to get to know all of the players better. Now maybe reward them all with the opportunity to be a part of the jury...that would be the ultimate twist - Christy Lunde (@NorthwestAirGal) March 28, 2019

@survivorcbs Twists are the reason #Survivor will never get old. Was skeptical about #EdgeOfExtinction , but sold on it now. Go Aubrey! - brad mcclintock (@shiverbeast) March 28, 2019

Holy cheese balls! What an epic twist! This just means more great confessionals! @survivorcbs #EdgeOfExtinction @RickDevensWGXA @BigWendy6 @aubrybracco - Michelle May (@shellmay39) March 28, 2019

Im really loving this #EdgeofExtinction twist to #Survivor . Adds a whole new layer of compelling redemption stories to tell, even if it imbalances the game a bit. And its fun to watch! - Alex Lepoutre (@alepoutre) March 28, 2019

...while others didn't like it at all.

I want to love these new #survivor twists. But I just dont!!! #EdgeOfExtinction - Nicole M. Burrell (@nicolemburrell) March 28, 2019

I feel conflicted about the #EdgeOfExtinction twist now because it kind of cheapens a blindside vote. No one is ever fully out of this game. I get the twist in the beginning but now this deep in the game it feels a little too much. Just one fans opinion #Survivor - Andy Mattison (@MattisonAve12) March 28, 2019

Sorry @JeffProbst @survivorcbs This #EdgeofExtinction gimmick just doesnt work. If you snuff a torch, theyre gone. Getting a new torch is a big cheat. Ive enjoyed most of the twists and turns over the seasons since the beginning, but this one sucks. - Russ Ceccola (@RussCeccola) March 21, 2019

The way this twist is going it will be day 39 on the island and there will still be 18 players @survivorcbs #EdgeOfExtinction #Survivor pic.twitter.com/KAgSqZQR0b - Allie Dixon (@dixon2289) March 28, 2019

Either way, this season is shaping up to be one of the most interesting yet.
