A true marquee signing? Famalicão's acquisition for their attack: Georgios Koutsias.
The young Greek striker, just 22 years old, has shown no signs of being affected by the €2.5 million fee paid by the SAD, led by Miguel Ribeiro, to Swiss club Lugano to secure the Hellenic U-21 international's services (20 games, 10 goals, and one assist). A better start to this new adventure would have been difficult to imagine: Koutsias arrived in Minho ready to play and, judging by his early performances, to reinforce his reputation as a prolific goalscorer.
A starter in all seven official matches played so far under Carlos Carvalhal, the number 70 began making an impact in the opening round, scoring a goal against Estoril that will go down in history: it was the first goal of the current league season.
Following that, and also due to a somewhat inconsistent start from Famalicão, Koutsias failed to score against Marítimo (1-2), Santa Clara (0-1), and Gil Vicente (0-0), before uncorking the ketchup bottle again with a brace against Estrela da Amadora (2-2).
Another match followed where effort overshadowed finishing opportunities, as was the case in the home draw against Sporting (1-1). However, the Greek's predatory instinct was reignited yesterday in the 'Pearl of the Atlantic,' as the striker bagged another brace in Famalicão's dominant 4-0 victory away at Nacional.
All told, Georgios Koutsias has five goals in seven appearances and is just three goals shy of matching his most prolific season to date, achieved with Lugano (2024/2025). It seems only a matter of time.
