The Football Association (FA) has officially charged Chelsea with discriminatory behavior by their fans during the London derby against Fulham at the start of the Premier League season. Following the match at Craven Cottage, which the Blues won 3-2, the Stamford Bridge club confirmed they had received numerous reports of discriminatory chants from a section of their supporters in the away end. Chelsea added that they do not tolerate such displays and that any fans found guilty would face "the strongest possible sanctions."

The FA specified that the charge relates to a particular chant heard in the ninth minute of the match, played on August 24th. Chelsea stands accused of failing to ensure that their spectators and/or supporters did not behave in an improper, offensive, or abusive manner. Furthermore, it is alleged that this behavior was discriminatory, as it included a direct or indirect reference to religion or religious belief.

Media outlets in the UK revealed that the chant in question was part of the song "Flute for 50 Pence," which contains offensive anti-Catholic lyrics, specifically targeting the Pope and the IRA. This song is typically associated with the more extreme supporters of Glasgow Rangers.
