Europe's Four Major Leagues Issue Joint Statement Against Infantino

The English Premier League, Spain's La Liga, Italy's Serie A, and Germany's Bundesliga have issued a joint statement calling for reforms within FIFA. The demand from four of Europe's five biggest championships is linked to FIFA President Gianni Infantino's failed plan to sell stakes in tournaments held under the auspices of the global football governing body, including the men's World Cup. In their joint statement, the four leagues accuse the FIFA president of actively promoting "exploitative ideas instead of striving to protect against them."

The collaboration between the four leading European leagues intensifies pressure on Infantino, who intends to run for another term at the upcoming FIFA Electoral Congress. However, numerous national federations, particularly in Europe, have already announced they will not support the Swiss official due to his controversial plan to sell World Cup rights through a subsidiary. "In recent years, the long-standing foundations of football have been threatened by a fundamental governance issue," the statement from the English, Spanish, Italian, and German leagues reads.
