EuroLeague Blockbuster: Longtime NBA Big Man Dwight Powell Set to Join Fenerbahce!
Following a tough clash with Real Madrid, Lithuanian head coach Šarūnas Jasikevičius openly highlighted his team's frontcourt issues, prompting the club's front office to swiftly ramp up their search for a reliable rim protector. According to "BasketNews," Fenerbahce are on the verge of completing a deal with the experienced Canadian center, who chose Istanbul on a one-year contract despite strong interest from several other EuroLeague clubs.
Dwight Powell arrives in Europe as a free agent after parting ways with the Dallas Mavericks just ahead of the new season. He spent a remarkable 12 years in Texas—virtually his entire NBA career—earning the reputation as the franchise's longest-tenured player. Renowned for his relentless motor, physical toughness, defensive grit, and rebounding presence, the Canadian big man has also been a dependable pick-and-roll finisher and an elite lob threat at the rim throughout his career.
Powell boasts 768 career appearances in the world's top league, averaging 6.5 points, 4.2 rebounds, and one assist across 17.5 minutes per game. Last season with Dallas, he posted 3.3 points and 4.1 rebounds while shooting an efficient 64.4 percent from the field, helping the Mavericks reach the 2024 NBA Finals. Beyond his postseason experience, Powell is widely respected for his durability, having played in all 100 regular-season and playoff games for Dallas during the 2021-22 campaign.
His addition provides Jasikevičius with a unique skill set currently missing from the roster, bringing much-needed stability, physicality, and interior toughness alongside Marcus Bingham, Sertaç Şanlı, Chris Silva, and Nicolò Melli.
