Eder Sarabia has been named the new head coach of Espanyol, replacing Manolo Gonzalez after the La Liga side were knocked out of the Copa del Rey by fourth-tier Sestao River.

The 46-year-old Sarabia was most recently in charge of Elche, guiding them to promotion to the top flight last season. He previously served as an assistant coach at both FC Barcelona and Real Betis. Espanyol currently sit 18th in the La Liga table, inside the relegation zone, AFP reported.
