Eric Cantona: I Wouldn't Have Signed for Manchester United Under Sir Jim Ratcliffe
Manchester United legend Eric Cantona has declared he would never have joined the club if current co-owner Sir Jim Ratcliffe had been at the helm during his playing days. Ratcliffe sparked fresh controversy this week after stating in a BBC interview that the UK is in decline because “nobody is tough enough to tackle the immigration problem.”
Ratcliffe has previously named the French forward as his favorite United player. However, when asked by United fan Pete Boyle on his TikTok channel if he would have signed for the club under Ratcliffe's ownership, Cantona responded, “No, of course not.”
“You know what I think about all this, about this kind of politics, and I cannot understand how someone like him can say such things while being one of the club's owners. Football is a very popular sport. Football was created – all the greatest players come from different waves of immigration. Everywhere, in France, in England, everywhere. In France, for example, the greatest players come from different waves of immigration,” he stated.
Cantona moved to Old Trafford in 1992 from rivals Leeds and helped the club secure four Premier League titles in five seasons.
