England has travelled the most miles among the 2026 World Cup semi-finalists

A World Cup held across three countries was always destined to test teams in ways no previous tournament has. With 16 host cities spread across North America, nations have had to travel more than ever in pursuit of football's ultimate prize.

And while every team has had to contend with vast distances, some have clocked up significantly more miles than others.

According to the BBC, England has travelled over 14,000 miles (22,500 km) to reach the final four – seven times more than favourites France and considerably more than their semi-final opponents, Argentina.

Thomas Tuchel's side made round trips from their base in Kansas City, Missouri, to play matches in Atlanta, Boston, Mexico City, and Miami.

Argentina also set up camp in Kansas City but has covered just over 8,000 miles (12,800 km). Meanwhile, France remained almost entirely on the East Coast, travelling less than 2,000 miles (3,200 km) before heading to Dallas for their semi-final against Spain. That journey of roughly 3,000 miles (4,800 km) round-trip will double their total mileage for the entire tournament.

Which other nations have racked up the long-haul miles?

England isn't the only team to have covered vast distances.

Spain has logged over 12,000 miles (19,300 km), while Switzerland surpassed 10,000 miles (16,000 km) thanks to what the Swiss Football Association described as "city-hopping" across North America.

Morocco repeatedly returned to their base in New Jersey, even as their matches took them to Boston, Atlanta, Monterrey, and Houston, before ultimately being knocked out by France in the quarter-finals.

Belgium's decision to base themselves in Renton, Washington, limited their travel to around 4,000 miles (6,400 km) before their elimination by Spain.

France's mileage is one of the lowest in the entire tournament – their total distance is even less than that of several teams eliminated after the group stage.

Whether these accumulated miles will prove to be a decisive factor can never be definitively known, but it is certainly true that France has clocked remarkably few air miles compared to the other teams in the final four.
