Endrick on Ancelotti: We have one of the best coaches in the world, it's as if God is watching over him

Endrick has had to be patient during his first World Cup, coming off the bench rather than being in the spotlight. The 19-year-old Brazilian forward stated he is "calm" with head coach Carlo Ancelotti's decisions. The Real Madrid striker did not feature in Brazil's opening match against Morocco, played 26 minutes against Haiti, came on in the closing stages against Scotland, and played 45 minutes against Japan. Fans have been calling for Endrick to play a larger role since the tournament began, but ahead of Sunday's Round of 16 clash against Norway, the teenager credited Ancelotti, who also coached him at Real Madrid, for prioritizing the team over individual players.

“He won't do what's best for me; he'll do what's best for the team. He isn't afraid to make tough decisions, he does what he believes is right, and things just happen. It's as if God is watching over him. Because whatever Carlo does, things just work out. When the coach tells me to do something, I won't look back; I'll just do what he wants,” the Brazilian international added.

When asked if the uncertainty about his playing time would affect him, Endrick assured that he remains calm: “I will sleep like a baby. I will be truly calm because before I fall asleep, I think the most important thing is what I do – to pray, to talk to God, and to be confident that things will happen at the right time.” Endrick stated that at 19, his mere inclusion in Brazil's World Cup squad is a “significant milestone.”

“I am very grateful to be here. For me, just being part of this team and participating in a World Cup is a victory in itself. I am very well prepared for this moment, but we are 26 players, and everyone is waiting for their chance. The important thing is to be ready when that chance comes,” the teenager continued.

Endrick also mentioned that his previous collaboration with Ancelotti at Real Madrid helped him understand the Italian's methods.

“He was my first coach when I arrived in Europe. That was one of the best experiences of my career. In my first season at Real, I didn't play much. It was a few minutes here and there, but I came into play practically every match. He told me to stay calm, that my time would come,” the Brazilian recounted.

He also pointed to Gabriel Martinelli's goal in Brazil's last match as proof that Ancelotti's squad management can pay off.

“Our coach is one of the best in the world. He knows exactly what to do. I feel very comfortable with him and always follow his advice,” Endrick concluded.
