The English Football League (EFL) has reportedly demanded £1 billion from the Premier League over a five-year period, as negotiations continue regarding a new revenue distribution agreement in English football, according to Sky News.
Clubs in the top flight were informed during a meeting yesterday that the EFL is pushing for annual payments of £207 million for five years, the report further states.
Earlier this year, media reports indicated that the Premier League had offered £1.5 billion over a 10-year period, in addition to the current funding provided by England's elite division.
An EFL spokesperson declined to comment on the matter, citing ongoing negotiations.
According to media reports, the Premier League paid approximately £137 million last season to the three lower divisions administered by the EFL – the Championship, League One, and League Two.
