This is following a bill proposed by Senator Jibrin Barau (APC, Kano) and Senator Samuel Anyanwu (PDP, Imo), for the conversion of these colleges.

The bills, which were named “Federal University of Education Kano (Establishment, etc) Bill, 2016 and Alvan Ikoku University of Education Owerri (Establishment, etc) Bill, 2016”, passed through the first reading at the senate on Thursday, December 1, 2016.

This is not an unprecedented development in the country.
