Sierra Leone community to hold 2-week lockdown

Authorities in the diamond-rich Kono district of the disease-ravaged nation decided to take the action after seven cases of Ebola were confirmed in the area in one day.

A community in the eastern district of Sierra Leone has begun a two-week "lockdown" as part of efforts to stop the spread of Ebola.

According to Emmanuel Lebbie, a local official, the lockdown will begin today, December 10 and last until December 23.

During this period, people will be allowed to move around within the district but no one will be permitted to leave or enter from another area.

Sierra Leone has overtaken Liberia as the nation with the most Ebola cases on record and currently accounts for about 1,500 of the more than 6,000 casualties.
