Dušan Alimpijević's Class Act: Serbian Coach Impresses with Post-Super Cup Final Gesture /VIDEO/
Tonight's final marked the fifth consecutive time the Istanbul-based Black Eagles have fallen to Fenerbahçe in a championship game. Including their EuroCup final loss, this is the sixth instance in the past two seasons where Beşiktaş has stumbled at the final hurdle.
Such a record is undoubtedly frustrating for Dušan Alimpijević, who once again failed to crown his impressive work on the Bosphorus with a trophy. Nevertheless, the Serbian national team coach displayed exemplary sportsmanship after the game.
The Serbian tactician approached each Fenerbahçe player individually, congratulating them on their victory before leaving the court, demonstrating grace in defeat.
Beşiktaş effectively lost this contest by halftime, heading into the break with a significant 19-point deficit (46:27). This proved to be more than enough of a cushion for Sarunas Jasikevicius's team, despite the Black Eagles narrowing the gap to eight points at the start of the final quarter. However, they lacked the strength for a full comeback.
As a reminder, Beşiktaş will host Valencia in their EuroLeague season opener on Friday, while Fenerbahçe will welcome Virtus Bologna on the same day.
