Đurović Unleashes on Motley: "He's Not Mentally Ready, He's Caused Incidents!"

Crvena zvezda began the new EuroLeague season with a defeat, losing to Žalgiris 77-83 at the Belgrade Arena. After the game, TV Arena Sport analyst and former coach Vlade Đurović was sharply critical.

A significant part of his analysis focused on Crvena zvezda's coach and his management of player minutes. Đurović specifically highlighted Jones, who he believes should have spent more time on the court.

"We talked a lot about Navarro; both Silva and Mačiulis mentioned him, and so did I. He disappointed me. His coaching was a bit strange. He didn't manage the game as he should have. If you look at the stats, Jones only played 19 minutes—imagine if McIntyre played that little. Your top scorer plays 19 minutes. Why did he play so little? Weiler-Babb played a lot, but he's not a playmaker; Miljenović created more effectively. Williams-Goss completely outplayed him. Moneke was a disappointment, as was Nwora. I don't know how he managed to score nine points. He spent a long time in the game. Carter, Moneke, Motley, Weiler-Babb—they all had too many minutes for what they contributed. It's so obvious; all the basketball experts next to me were wondering about his substitutions. Jones brought the team back from a deficit to a lead twice. And still, the man plays fewer minutes than Weiler-Babb. Dobrić also disappointed me; he played five minutes with no impact. Too many players with no contribution. Zvezda has quality. Zvezda plays defense; they fight. The crowd has its influence, but I'm afraid Zvezda might lose another one of the next two games, and then they'll be in big trouble," said Vlade Đurović.

The renowned coach believes the Spaniard should place more trust in Ebuka Izundu.

"Other coaches have made mistakes with Izundu, including Sfairopoulos and Obradović. He played less than the others. Motley might be a better player, fair enough, but he's not the kind of player people think he is. He's not without talent, but he's just not mentally ready for this level of competition. Motley has caused incidents wherever he's been. They wanted to get rid of him at Hapoel as well," said Đurović.
