Liverpool secured the signing of Jacquet from Stade Rennes in January for approximately £60 million (around €70 million), with the transfer finalized on July 1st. However, the 21-year-old French center-back missed a significant portion of pre-season due to a persistent knee injury, only making his debut in the match against Cesc Fàbregas' Como.
The France U21 international was replaced by another debutant, Ronald Araújo, at halftime. "I think Jérémy played a really good game. As did Ronald, who came on for him. Both new players, for whom it was their first match, performed well. Jeremie Frimpong also put in a very good performance at right-back, helping us offensively and closing down his space excellently," said manager Iraola after the encounter.
After the break, Liverpool created fewer opportunities, with Ryan Gravenberch having the best chance. Following a good move from Victor Muñoz, he rounded the goalkeeper but could only hit the crossbar.
"We needed to finish the game with a clean sheet and a win. The first half was better than the second, but we maintained our organization and composure, which ultimately brought us a clean sheet and a 2-0 victory. We'll take this feeling with us into the start of the league season," added Iraola, who replaced the dismissed Arne Slot between seasons.
FC Liverpool will kick off their new Premier League season next weekend away at Newcastle United.
