It was a brutal display of force from Oklahoma City. The Lakers suffered a stinging defeat, but the 43-point deficit was overshadowed by chilling scenes from the third quarter. The Slovenian magician left the court with a pained grimace and a limp, the sight of Luka agonizingly heading to the locker room freezing everyone in the arena.
Before the injury, Dončić was having a game to forget – in 26 minutes, he scored a mere 12 points with abysmal shooting from the field (3/10) and a staggering six turnovers. It was clear something wasn't right.
Lakers coach JJ Redick admitted at the press conference that Dončić had felt pain in his left hamstring as early as the first quarter, but remained in the game nonetheless.
"We'll do an MRI on Friday; it's his left hamstring. We'll know more then. We checked him, and he was cleared by the medical team to play. We would never knowingly put a player at risk. These things just happen," Redick stated.
While awaiting the official medical report, a state of siege grips the City of Angels. With only a week left in the regular season, a potential extended absence for Dončić would completely shatter the Lakers' championship dreams.
If Dončić is forced to sit out, it will undoubtedly place pressure on LeBron James and Austin Reaves as primary playmakers to keep the team afloat.
