Jonathan’s aide dragged to court over N34M debt

Presidential aide, Doyin Okupe has been taken to court by the Nigerian Deposit Insurance Corporation, (NDIC) over an unpaid debt of N34 billion.

The NDIC, Liquidator of Gulf bank Nigeria Plc., filed the debt recovery suit before a Federal High Court in Lagos, Daily Trust reports.

Okupe, who is President Goodluck Jonathan’s adviser on public affairs, was joined in the suit along with investment company, Value Trust Investment Limited, and a Director of the company, Ray Ahazie.

According to the NDIC, Okupe and other defendants in the case owe the sum of N34,168,064.51. as outstanding balance of a loan they took from the liquidated Gulf bank Plc.

The corporation is also claiming the interest on the loan at the rate of 21 per cent per annum from May 2007 until it is paid.

Further hearing in the case has been adjourned till July 8, 2015.
