Karim Adeyemi is reportedly nearing a move to Barcelona after Borussia Dortmund officially confirmed they have granted him permission to negotiate with another club. The German side announced that the winger has been excused from the start of pre-season preparations.
Earlier reports from "Sky" and "Bild" suggested that Adeyemi's transfer to the Catalan giants was practically finalized.
According to information, Dortmund and Barcelona, led by former Germany coach Hansi Flick, have reached an agreement on a transfer fee of 22 million euros, with an additional 7 million euros earmarked in bonuses. The player's contract is expected to run until the summer of 2031.
"Karim Adeyemi and Kjell Wätjen will not participate in the start of pre-season training. Both players have been granted time to hold talks with other clubs," Dortmund announced on social media platform X regarding the team's assembly for the new season's kickoff.
The 24-year-old Adeyemi, whose current contract with the "Black and Yellows" extends until 2027, has long expressed his desire to leave the club.
The winger arrived in Dortmund four years ago from Red Bull Salzburg.
It was Flick who handed Adeyemi his debut for the German national team in September 2021. Since then, Adeyemi has made 11 appearances for the Mannschaft, though he was not included in Julian Nagelsmann's squad for the World Cup.
In his four seasons at Dortmund, the footballer played 146 matches, scoring 36 goals, seven of which came in the past campaign.
At the Spanish champions, Adeyemi will face stiff competition from superstar Lamine Yamal and newly acquired English winger Anthony Gordon.
