Dončić Unleashed: Luka Shatters Bryant's Record and Cements His Place in History /VIDEO/

For much of the season, Luka Dončić has been overshadowed by players like Victor Wembanyama, Shai Gilgeous-Alexander, and Nikola Jokić. That narrative is now changing.

The Slovenian superstar has firmly entered the MVP conversation amidst the Lakers' impressive run. Heading into their game against the Cleveland Cavaliers, the Lakers had won 12 of their last 13 matchups, including a 19-point victory on Monday against the Washington Wizards.

During this stretch, Dončić has been absolutely phenomenal. By the start of Tuesday's game, Dončić had already tallied 20 points in the first half, reaching 35 by the end of the third quarter. With his 21st point, he shattered the Lakers' all-time record for points scored in a single calendar month, surpassing Kobe Bryant's previous record of 578 points.

Bryant's record-setting month also occurred in March, 20 years ago – specifically in 2006. Remarkably, Dončić broke this record despite serving a one-game suspension for accumulating his 16th technical foul of the season.

The Lakers celebrated a 127-113 victory, marking their 50th win of the season and making them the fifth team to reach that milestone this year.

Given the Suns' loss to the Magic earlier on Tuesday evening, the Lakers have now secured a top-six spot in the conference, guaranteeing they will bypass the play-in tournament. Following Tuesday's game, the Lakers travel to Oklahoma City to face the reigning champions on Thursday.

Beyond this magical night, Dončić achieved another significant NBA milestone, becoming the third-youngest player in league history to reach 15,000 career points. Only LeBron James and Kevin Durant accomplished this feat at a younger age.
