Doku: I know I need to score more

Belgian national team winger Jérémy Doku became a father during the World Cup, but that was his only cause for celebration at the tournament. He lost his starting spot in the squad, but the upcoming quarter-final against Spain in Los Angeles on Friday could be his chance to regain the trust of head coach Rudi Garcia.

Before the championship began, the 24-year-old was expected to be one of his country's key players, but he started in only three of Belgium's five matches, and was benched for the last game. Nevertheless, his speed, dribbling, and ability to beat opposing defenders make him a crucial option for coach Rudi Garcia, who is seeking tactical solutions to surprise the European champions.

Doku was not in the coach's plans for Monday's match in Seattle, where Belgium thrashed the USA 4-1. Garcia opted for Dodi Lukebakio and Leandro Trossard on the wings, who performed strongly in both attack and defense.

Doku himself doesn't hide his ambition to become the best winger in the world, but he realizes that to achieve this, he needs to improve his goal-scoring record.

"If I start scoring those goals, then I believe I can definitely reach the top," he stated.

"I feel that assists are my strength, but I need to score more," the player added.

Doku's last goal for Belgium dates back to November last year in a match against Liechtenstein.
