Created in 1894 by a bartender at the Waldorf Astoria in Manhattan, New York City, Roby Roy was named in honor of the premiere of Rob Roy, an operetta by composer Reginald De Koven and lyricist Harry B. Smith loosely based upon Scottish folk hero Rob Roy MacGregor.

While similar to a Manhattan, it is made exclusively using Scotch Whiskey.

What you need:

  • 1 1/2 fluid ounces Scotch whisky
  • 3/4 cup sweet vermouth
  • 1 cup ice

Directions:

Combine vermouth and whisky in a cocktail mixing class. Add ice and stir until chilled. Strain into a chilled cocktail glass.
