Did Saša Obradović Forget Rivero: Coach's Strange Decision Might Have Cost Them the Win

Hasiel Rivero could have been Crvena Zvezda Meridianbet's hero in the match against Partizan. However, he only spent 13 minutes on the court, and the black-and-whites celebrated an 89-82 victory. The burning question after this game is: why didn't he play more?

If anyone was particularly inspired at the start of the game, it was the Cuban. The experienced center showcased his impressive post-up technique. He scored from pick-and-rolls, hit tough shots around the rim, and even a difficult turnaround jumper. He accounted for the Red Star's first eight points.

He exited after the TV timeout, and that's when Partizan found their rhythm, scoring points in the paint. He didn't return to the court for the rest of the first half. Zvezda's interior defense crumbled as Joel Bolomboy and Ebuka Izundu were over-helping on Partizan's guards. This was the fundamental issue for the red-and-whites.

Then, at the start of the second half, Rivero once again provided an initial spark for the red-and-whites. It's clear that the popular 'Papi' possesses immense energy, but it's not being utilized effectively. Short bursts of 10 minutes aren't enough in a game like this, especially when he started so well. Furthermore, a recurring problem for the red-and-whites throughout much of the season has been free throws. Rivero, however, missed only one free throw.

Rivero deserves praise for a stellar performance in just 13 minutes on the court. The unfortunate aspect is that he has to share minutes, but in this game, he particularly earned significantly more playing time. When someone shoots 5/6 from two-point range, it signifies inspiration; when someone braids their hair in the colors of their club, it means they're ready for anything. That's Hasiel 'Papi' Rivero, a player who was seemingly forgotten despite playing exceptionally well.
