The Royal Club announced on Monday that Garuba has torn his anterior cruciate ligament (ACL). This devastating injury, one of the worst in sports, typically requires a recovery period of nine months to a year, effectively sidelining the Spanish center for the entire upcoming season.

The former Houston Rockets player landed awkwardly on his left leg in the fourth quarter of the game against Valencia, without any contact from an opposing player. He immediately fell to the ground, clutching his knee. It was clear at that moment that it was a serious injury, but everyone hoped it wasn't the worst-case scenario. However, those hopes were dashed today.

Garuba traveled to the EuroLeague Final Four in Athens as Sergio Scariolo's only true center in the rotation, as Walter Tavares and Alex Len were both out due to injuries. Following the Spanish center's injury, Real played the final without a traditional center, yet they remained competitive against Olympiacos almost until the very end. Ultimately, Olympiacos prevailed after a dramatic finish.

This season, Garuba played a total of 40 games in Europe's elite competition, averaging 5.2 points and 2.8 rebounds in 12 minutes per game.
