Denver Snags EuroLeague's Top Defender for a Steal: Diallo Joins Jokic!

It's official; Alpha Diallo is set to become Nikola Jokic's new teammate, as reliable NBA insider Shams Charania reports that the long-time Monaco player has reached an agreement with the Denver Nuggets.

Charania reports that Diallo has signed a one-year, $1.4 million contract, the NBA's minimum for a non-two-way deal. The Nuggets have thus acquired last season's EuroLeague Defensive Player of the Year for a bargain. It's worth noting that Diallo had reportedly reached an agreement with Dubai but had an option to void it by July 15th if an NBA offer materialized. The fact that Diallo received such a modest contract isn't surprising, given he's 29 and has never played in the NBA.

Diallo could undoubtedly have secured a more lucrative deal in Europe, but the allure of the NBA is often irresistible...

The New York native averaged 11.9 points, 4.4 rebounds, 1.4 assists, and 1.4 steals in the EuroLeague last season, establishing himself as one of Monaco's top players.

He spent all five of his EuroLeague seasons with Monaco, where he developed into one of the best two-way wing players in European basketball. Therefore, it's safe to say the Nuggets and Nikola Jokic are gaining a superb all-around player, one that any European team would covet. With Monaco, he won three French championship titles, two National Cups, one League Cup, and one Supercup, and also participated in two EuroLeague Final Fours.

Monaco faced significant financial challenges during the season but still managed to reach the EuroLeague playoffs. The depleted Monegasques were no match for Olympiacos, who swept them 3-0, but they did secure the French title. Next year, they will compete in the EuroCup instead of the EuroLeague.
