Tottenham have officially announced Roberto De Zerbi as their new manager. The Italian has signed a five-year contract, which includes a clause allowing him to depart if the Spurs are relegated from the top flight. The former Marseille and Brighton boss becomes the third manager for the North London club this season, following Thomas Frank and Igor Tudor, who was sacked just days ago. The Croatian lasted only 44 days in the role, leaving Tottenham a mere point above the relegation zone.
"I am delighted to join this fantastic football club, which is one of the biggest and most prestigious in the world. In all my conversations with the board, their ambition for the future was clear – to build a team capable of achieving great things, and to do so by playing a style that excites and inspires our supporters. I am here because I believe in this ambition, and I have signed a long-term contract to give my all to make it a reality.
Our short-term priority is to climb the Premier League table, which will be our complete focus until the final whistle of the last match of the season. I can't wait to get onto the training pitch and work with these players to achieve that," De Zerbi stated on Tottenham's official website.
Tottenham's Sporting Director, Johan Lange, added that De Zerbi had been the management's primary target.
"Roberto was our number one target for the summer, and we are very pleased to be able to bring him in now. He is one of the most creative and visionary coaches in world football and brings with him a wealth of experience at the highest level, including in the Premier League."
