Spain's head coach, Luis de la Fuente, commented on his team's 2-1 victory over Belgium in the World Cup quarterfinals. The win was secured by a late goal from substitute Mikel Merino.

"This success is all down to the character of this team. It's an honor for me to lead such a dedicated group that constantly strives for improvement," de la Fuente stated immediately after the match.

"It's fair to believe that we can defeat France. We will work hard for it. We are the only team that has managed to beat France twice. A clash between two great national teams awaits us,"
the coach added.

"Mikel Merino possesses many qualities. He fits perfectly into our system of play. I know that whenever I need him, he will be there," de la Fuente emphasized.

"La Roja" has reached the World Cup semifinals for only the third time in its history, and for the first time since 2010, when they won the title.

The showdown between Spain and France is scheduled for July 14th.
