UFC veteran Darren Till is set to face Aaron Chalmers in Birmingham. The Liverpudlian is preparing for his Bare Knuckle Fighting Championship (BKFC) debut, having announced earlier this month his departure from Misfits Boxing to sign with BKFC.
The date for the highly anticipated bout has now been confirmed. On Tuesday, BKFC announced that Till will make his debut on May 30th against influencer and BKFC veteran Aaron Chalmers. The fight will take place at the Utilita Arena in Birmingham, England, as part of the BKFC 90 event. The former UFC welterweight title contender left MMA in 2022 to transition into boxing.
Across exhibition matches, Misfits fights, and traditional boxing, "The Gorilla" has maintained an undefeated record, winning all four of his ring appearances. His most recent victory was a knockout over Luke Rockhold last August.
Despite initially being hesitant about joining BKFC, Till told Yahoo Sports on Tuesday that he simply couldn't refuse the offer.
“I have to say, the reason bare-knuckle boxing came about is because I couldn’t turn down the offer,” Till said. “It was irresistible… It excited me. It got my blood boiling. It’s a pretty raw sport, from what I’ve watched. It’s tough. These guys aren’t traditional martial artists. They’re all just very tough, hard-hitting fighters. So you have to go in there with a different type of mentality, which we will do.”
His upcoming opponent, Chalmers, already boasts significant experience in the bare-knuckle arena. The former reality TV star began his MMA career in 2017, accumulating a 5-2 record across BAMMA and Bellator. He then competed in various boxing formats before transitioning to bare-knuckle boxing, where he defeated Chaz Symonds at BKFC 72 last year.
