UFC CEO Dana White recounted to USA TODAY the "crazy" moment when gunshots rang out.
WASHINGTON – Dana White found himself at the epicenter of chaos during Saturday's White House Correspondents' Dinner.
President Donald Trump was escorted from the stage after security clashed with an alleged shooter outside the Washington Hilton hotel in Washington. While several cabinet members were on the floor, numerous Secret Service agents remained between tables, including the one where UFC CEO Dana White was seated.
White gave his first public reaction to USA TODAY after the event concluded.
"(Suddenly) it just got loud," White said. "Tables were flipping, guys stormed in with guns, yelling 'Get down!' I didn't get down. It was f***ing awesome. I literally soaked in every minute of what was happening, and it was a pretty crazy, unique experience. We were sitting right in front of the table, right in front of where the President was. Nobody was taken down, but guys came in looking for shooters and they headed straight for our table. I thought the shooter was somewhere near us."
Details about the shooter have not been officially confirmed, although Trump stated in a written statement that the individual had been "apprehended." Trump also mentioned that the dinner, which he was advised not to return to, would be rescheduled within 30 days.
Trump's appearance on Saturday marked his first at the White House Correspondents' Dinner in over a decade – and his first as a sitting president.
