Stephen Curry is gearing up for his 18th NBA season with his future still up in the air. At 38, the Golden State Warriors star insists, however, that the situation won't impact his performance or the locker room atmosphere.

“I don’t want any drama. No speeches. This team needs to be competitive and win,” he told ESPN, making it clear that contract negotiations shouldn't become a distraction for a team aiming to contend for a championship once again.

Since August 29th, the point guard has had the option to extend his current contract for two more seasons, in a deal worth 120 million euros. His current contract is set to pay him 55 million euros this season, but Curry has yet to make a decision. “It will happen at the right time, when I have all the necessary information to make the right decision,” he explained.

However, his future doesn't seem to jeopardize the relationship between Curry and the Warriors. The player maintains that his “obvious goal” is to finish his career in Golden State and admits that the decision will also consider the team's ability to remain competitive.

“I want to be on a competitive team. I want to have the opportunity to have some flexibility because we haven’t had that in recent years,” he stated.

Financial considerations are thus important for Curry, who understands that a potential extension will impact the Warriors' salary cap flexibility for next summer. The objective is to find a balance between his contract and building a team capable of contending for major trophies again.

On the court, the point guard assures that nothing will change, regardless of when he decides his future. “If I don’t sign, it won’t affect my performance or the responsibility I have,” he affirmed.

Curry enters the new season after playing only 43 games last season due to right knee issues, but he guarantees he's ready to return to action. “The idea of getting back to work excites me,” he confessed. He further emphasized: “I have no doubt about my physical condition. I’m excited to get back to work.”
