Raphinha sustained an injury during Thursday's friendly match against France in Foxborough, USA, where Brazil fell 2-1. The Brazilian Football Confederation (CBF) stated that both Raphinha and AS Roma right-back Wesley reported pain in their right hamstring during the encounter.
"On Friday, the players underwent examinations which confirmed muscle injuries," the CBF announced, according to AFP.
Barcelona subsequently issued its own statement, specifying the recovery period for the 29-year-old winger. "The player is returning to Barcelona to begin appropriate treatment. The estimated recovery time is five weeks," the La Liga club stated.
Raphinha is a key player for the Catalan giants, who will be without him for both matches against Diego Simeone's side. The "Blaugranas" will host Atletico on April 8th and travel to Madrid on April 14th.
Raphinha, who has scored 19 goals for Barcelona this season, will also miss league matches against Atletico, Espanyol, Celta Vigo, and Getafe. Barcelona hopes the Brazilian will be fit for El Clásico against Real Madrid (May 10th), and potentially for a Champions League semi-final against Arsenal or Sporting (April 29th). He is also expected to be available for Brazil at the World Cup in the USA, Canada, and Mexico.
