Coventry City has secured the signing of Taiwo Awoniyi from Nottingham Forest. The 29-year-old striker, who spent six seasons at Liverpool with several loan spells, is reportedly joining the Sky Blues for a fee of £9 million, according to British media. The Nigerian international moved to Forest from Union Berlin in 2022, subsequently scoring 21 goals in 90 Premier League appearances. Last season, he featured for the Robin Hood city's team in the Europa League, reaching the semi-finals of the international competition.
"I'm looking forward to this new challenge. I witnessed the team's incredible performance in the Championship last season. I can't wait to meet my new teammates," Awoniyi stated on Coventry's official website.
The forward sustained a knee injury last November, sidelining him for over a month. This weekend, the Premier League newcomers will visit champions Arsenal, marking the opening fixture of the elite English championship. The match is scheduled for Friday, August 21st, at 10:00 PM Bulgarian time (8:00 PM BST).
