A wave of burglaries targeting footballers' homes has hit Spain, with intruders increasingly breaking in while occupants are inside and using violence, as seen last week in Seville with Sergio Rico.
Mishel Gerzig Courtois, wife of Real Madrid goalkeeper Thibaut Courtois, completed mandatory military service in the Israel Defense Forces, yet admits that the prospect of a home invasion terrifies her.
"It terrifies me, of course, being a mother and having kids at home... I can't even imagine it. Just talking about it gives me goosebumps," she admitted on the red carpet at the Harper's Bazaar 'Women of the Year' gala in Madrid.
"I hope they investigate and put an end to it, because the safety of my family and my children comes first," the Israeli model added, explaining that she has spent recent days on edge. "I'm thinking about what I can do at home and how best to protect my family. They can take whatever they want; the safety of my kids is what matters most."
Mishel Gerzig also addressed Courtois' absence from last weekend's Clásico due to illness: "Poor guy... but he is doing much better now."
