Court remands man, 60, in prison over alleged defiling of minor
The defendant of no fixed address is standing trial on a charge of rape.
The Prosecutor, Insp. Oriyomi Akinwale, told the court that the defendant committed the offence on April 1 in Ire -Ekiti.
He alleged that the defendant defiled a 12-year old girl.
Akinwale told the court that the defendant lured the girl into his room by telling her to buy something for him and was sexually assaulted.
He informed the court that the victim was seriously brutalised in the vagina, resulting to bleeding and stitches of her vagina.
Akinwale said the defendant confessed to the crime but noted that it was the victim that raped him.
He noted that the offence contravened Section 31 (2) of Child’s Right Law of Ekiti State, 2012.
The prosecutor urged the court to remand the accused in prison pending legal advice from Office of Director of Public Prosecution (DPP).
The plea of the accused was not taken.
The Magistrate, Mrs Modupe Afeniforo, consequently remanded the defendant in prison and adjourned the case until May 22 for mention.
