Court jails man who broke into CCECC warehouse
An Abeokuta Magistrates’ Court on Tuesday sentenced a 23-year-old man, Sunday Adesomoju, to two months imprisonment for stealing cable wire and iron rods from the warehouse of China Civil Engineering Construction Corporation (CCECC).
The Magistrate, Mrs Temitope Obasanjo, sentenced the convict on a two-count charge of conspiracy, breaking-in and stealing.
Obasanjo held that the prosecution had proved its case beyond reasonable doubt that the convict was guilty as charged.
She, thereafter, sentenced Adesomoju to two months imprisonment with an option of N20,000 fine.
Earlier, the prosecutor, Insp Idowu Ogunleye, told the court that the convict committed the offence on Oct. 2, 2018 at about 2:30p.m. at Olomore area of Abeokuta.
Ogunleye said the convict conspired with others now at large to break into the warehouse of CCECC and stole cable wire and irons belonging to the company.
“The accused and one of his friends entered into the yard of CCECC company through the fence and stole cable wire and iron rods.
“The accused was sighted by one Mr Ijoko Daniel, a supervisor at CCECC, who noticed the two thieves during the act.
“He immediately raised an alarm, forcing the two thieves to jump over the fence and flee.
”Those who came out discovered the thieves came with a Bajaj motorcycle which was parked outside company.
“Unfortunately for Adesomoju, when he later came back to pick his motorcycle, he was apprehended by the police,” the prosecutor said.
According to the prosecutor, the offences committed contravened Sections 516 and 413 of the Criminal Laws of Ogun, 2006.
