Former interim UFC welterweight champion Colby Covington has officially informed the organization of his decision to retire from active competition. The news was confirmed by UFC officials on Monday. The promotion's database now lists Covington as a retired fighter.
Covington (17-5) last fought in the UFC in December 2024, suffering a third-round knockout loss to Joaquin Buckley. This came a year after his unsuccessful bid to claim the undisputed welterweight title from Leon Edwards.
The fighter, nicknamed "Chaos," leaves the promotion with a record of 12 wins and 5 losses inside the Octagon, having secured significant victories over Jorge Masvidal, Tyron Woodley, Rafael dos Anjos, and Robbie Lawler during his career. His retirement comes as a surprise, especially considering he had been actively campaigning for a spot on the UFC's White House event on June 14th.
The 38-year-old fighter has been active on the wrestling mat in recent months, defeating Luke Rockhold and Dillon Danis earlier this year in the "Real American Freestyle" circuit. He has a scheduled match against Chris Weidman in Texas on May 30th, also under the RAF banner.
