For the 11th attempt…Today, I dedicate my birthday to you — Crvena Zvezda, Serbia, and families across the Balkans.Thank you for accepting me just as I am.Somewhere during this year, something shifted between us. We started to trust each other more. We learned how to love louder.Thank you, Kalinić, for taking me under your wing as your unofficial student of Serbian history. I’ll miss our conversations — and my endless questions about the Ottoman Empire. 😂Between learning your history, eating at local restaurants, talking with fans after games, and the kids showing up every day at practice, something awakened within me. You made me want to give you everything I have.You taught me something about myself. Getting to know your flaws helped me accept my own. Learning to love you more openly taught me to love parts of myself more too.There were times when I thought my fire was dimming, but you completely reignited it. And I hope that over these past two years, I managed to give at least some of that back to you.No matter where life takes me, I will always feel Serbia is my home.Many of you opened the doors of your homes and families to me.
